Declare from the rooftops
“Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light;
and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops.” Mt 10:27

In December 2019 I sensed the Lord saying, “Church!  It’s time to realize that you are part of something bigger!”

The word ‘realize’ means to become fully aware of something as a fact; understand clearly.

What is the something bigger, I asked the Lord and He said, “A spiritual house that I am building.”

I went into the Word to confirm what I sensed God was saying and was led to 1 Peter 2:4-5; 1 Co 3:9-11; 16-17; Eph 2:19-22 and Heb 3:1-6.  I encourage you to read and study these awesome scriptures.

God is using us; His chosen and precious people, as living stones to build up His spiritual house where we are fellow citizens of the Kingdom and members of God’s household.  I don’t know about you but I think this is incredible.  Are you starting to realize that you are part of something bigger?

Remember to read what happens in the end in Revelation 21-22.  God will dwell with us.  We will be His people.  God Himself will be with us and be our God (Rev 21:3).

I was humbled on Good Friday of this year while watching the world wide worship service with Chris Tomlin.  I felt so small and yet part of something so big; the body of Christ; the Church of Jesus Christ!

As I meditated on that, I was led to Eph 5:25-32.

For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church.  He gave up His life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word.  He did this to present her to Himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish.  Instead, she will be holy and without fault.  In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies.  For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself.  No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church.  And we are members of His body.  As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.” This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one. NLT

All of this has caused me to be even more in awe of being part of the Church of Jesus Christ.  I have reflected on how Jesus gave up His life to make us a holy bride and that we are all members of His body.  Christ and the Church are one!  How awesome is that!

There is a line in the song, ‘I Believe (The Creed)’ that has always struck me, and it says “I believe in the saints’ communion, And in Your holy Church!”

God has a purpose and satan has an agenda for the church.  Satan’s agenda from the beginning, has been to divide the body and cause contention, division and strife among us.  Perhaps you have become complacent or busy, or both, taking each other for granted, having no time to care for and nurture relationships.

However, God’s plan, which will prevail, is to increase our love for one another so that we will not take each other for granted but value one another, nourish and cherish one another, desiring to be together, meeting together, praying for and truly loving one another.

God wants us to be in awe of being part of something bigger; something way beyond ourselves; the body of Christ, the Church of Jesus Christ.

So how have these words and truths changed my heart and my life?

I want to partner with God’s plan.  I have asked Him to enlarge my heart with His love for others and He is answering my prayer and has put more of His love in my heart for others.  I have such a desire to use the gifts God has given me for His glory and for the edification, exhortation and comfort of the Church (1Co 14:3).  I have found myself not only looking forward to each gathering and each conversation, but cherishing and valuing each moment, not wanting to miss a single moment of what God is doing.

My hope and prayer is that in reading this blog, you have come to realize that you are part of something bigger.  More importantly, how has this realization changed your heart and life?

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches...” (Rev 2:7)

Today in singing the song Hosanna, the words "Break my heart for what breaks yours" really spoke to me, because for a long time that was the cry of my heart. It also reminded me that I am part of something bigger, as it spoke so clearly to me about Kingdom purposes. In John 14, Jesus kept reminding his disciples that if they loved him they would keep his commandments. Those words were not only intended for the disciples back then in Jesus' day, but to all disciples including you and me, who choose to follow him. Yes we are a part of something bigger, the whole body of Christ. Let us remember that, if we get off track, knowing that He is coming back for a holy, spotless church one having listened with ears to hear and now to obey. Thanks for that great reminder for us, Wendy.
