Know Him and Trust Him

Know Him and Trust Him

 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Hello Saints,

Ever been in a predicament where you don’t see a way out. There is nothing you can humanly do to change the situation. Or you’ve come to a wall you can’t get over, around or through; Without divine assistance…you’re stuck. Well as a follower of Jesus, as one who supposedly believes in God, that’s probably the time you actually throw up your hands, fall on your face and surrender your inability to overcome to the Lord. You’re out of ideas; your plans aren’t working; it’s roadblock after roadblock. God says, “Finally! What took you so long?” Why do we so often seem to reverse verse 5 and “trust in the Lord” after our “own understanding” has failed? The answer is that we have not given Him our whole heart! “Whole heart” speaks of total commitment and complete surrender. It’s not easy to do! Absolute faith in God is not normal. We are prone to hang on to a part of our plans just in case God doesn’t do it right. Giving up total control! Really? But…what if…? Exactly! No “buts”…Just surrender! Whole heart! Admitting I don’t understand a thing, but rather God has all wisdom and all understanding – He sees the beginning from the end; He knows every possibility, every outcome, and the best way to achieve His purposes for me and you. Do you believe that? Do you really believe in God’s sovereignty, omniscience and omnipotence? Is He, to you, the same God as we read about in the Bible? Is He the One who can part the seas, calm the waves, keep us alive in the fire, and defeat our giants and enemies? Is He the same yesterday, today and always? Do we really know the God of the Bible? How well do we know Him? If we really know Him, then we can really trust Him.

This is verse 6: “acknowledge” means ‘to know’. Know that He is able to do anything He wants to do to accomplish His purposes for your life. Do I know this God “who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think”? Do I know Him enough to let Him lead me, guide me, and walk with me through every situation I encounter? Every Giant? Every Obstacle? If I know Him to be the same God I read about, who led His people through a myriad of trials as they trusted Him, and He is the same God to me, then I can completely surrender control, and follow Him wherever He leads me. I need to continue to grow my faith by believing that God is who He says He is, trusting Him in every situation, no matter how difficult, even when it doesn’t make sense to me. Verse 6 would seem to suggest that His direction on which path to take is only available when I “acknowledge Him” in all my ways. Or, put another way, unless I spend time really getting to know God, I can’t expect His guidance, nor even be sure that I am on the right path. “The people who know their God shall be strong and carry out great exploits (Dan. 11:32 NKJ). Intimacy with God - getting to know Him, leads to supernatural ability, courage, and faith to face any giant in front of us. Take it from Daniel; Take it from David; Take it from Deborah or Paul. “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God” (Psalm 20:7). Each day, each hour, each new year brings many trials, decisions, and paths that need to be taken. Praise God we have a sovereign God who is willing to lead us and get us through to accomplishing the plans He has for us. Are we willing to “let go and let God”? If we want to accomplish great things this year, fruit flows out of intimacy – Know God - Trust God!

"Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing…. "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. (John 15:4-7)
