Seed of the woman & Son of God
"And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son and shall call His name JESUS. "He will be great and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. "And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end… "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.
(NKJ Luke 1:31-33, 35)
Hello Chosen,
Is it not the most amazing time of year to focus on the ‘one thing needed’ to deliver the world from its plight. There is no greater truth, of essential importance, than to know that God is in control, and has a plan to deliver us out of our own, self-made misery. Our world is, according to scripture, “full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, fighting, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip, etc.” (Rom. 1:29). Look around…it was so back then, and it is today. But lo, in the midst of it all, in “a small, humble Jewish farming village in Galilee, with a population of a few hundred people”, to a newly engaged young couple, ‘at just the right time’ (Gal. 4:4), something incredible happens! God steps in to the world and says, “Enough!...It’s time!” The whole world has been waiting for this intervention; for 4,000 years…since the beginning of time, prophet after prophet has been announcing it. The time has come. God’s plan of redemption, inaugurated since the fall of Adam, in His promise to Satan that One would arise to “crush your head” or more literally, ‘trample you under foot’ (Gen. 3:15; Rom. 16:20; Psa. 110:1-2) is set in motion through the young virgin, in fulfillment of Isaiah’s 700 year old prophecy (Isa. 7:14). God has not forgotten His people. He has kept His word, and He is about to fulfill it.
What is this plan? It’s twofold! First, the Son of the Most High God will come as Jesus (meaning ‘God is salvation’, or ‘God Saves’) and ‘save His people from their sins’ (Matt. 1:21). Secondly, He will come again to rule and reign on the throne of David, even though His kingdom did indeed come to earth when He came in His incarnation. The fullest expression of Jesus’ reign will be at His second coming when He returns as King of kings and Lord of lords. It is interesting to me that Joseph is told that Jesus will “deliver from sins” and Mary is told that Jesus will be Ruler and King in fulfillment of the Davidic promise (2Sam. 7:12-14). That’s probably a whole teaching in itself but suffice it to say that Adam is credited with the sin (Romans 5:14-19); it’s the sin of Adam, not the sin of Adam and Eve. Praise be to God that the One Man, the Son of Man, has come to take away original sin and restore in part, the reign with which we were once entrusted (Romans 5:17; Gen. 1:26-31).
Now friends, here is the most amazing thing to me! That God has not abandoned His chosen people. Jesus is the promised Davidic King who will rule over the “house of Jacob” – that is Israel! We must first and foremost see that Jesus is the long-awaited Jewish Messiah. How incredible that would have been to hear for those humble, poor Jews who were oppressed by Roman rule, and oppressed by their own religious authorities. Simple folk in Nazareth, grinding out an existence in an agricultural setting, going to synagogue every Sabbath, hearing the prophecies of the coming Messiah, thinking “surely not here; who are we”. The town was not even mentioned in the Old Testament and had the reputation that “nothing good comes from Nazareth” (John 1:46). Yet, One day, in that forgotten and overlooked little village, thirty years after the angel announced the coming Savior and King to Mary and Joseph, Messiah walks into the synagogue and announces that He is the One the house of Jacob has been waiting for – the One Isaiah spoke about – the One who would free His people from their multi-layered bondage. What great news! Yet, after all this…he was rejected and almost killed (Luke 4:16-30).
Oh man, we can be so blind; so lost; so discouraged and hopeless, that we can’t even see what or Who is right in front of us! God chooses the humble and foolish (1Cor. 1:27); Simple peasants, neglected things of this world are chosen for greatness! That means the world for you and me! But it will take divine revelation – a visitation from the Lord – an intervention -a spiritual awakening in order to get our attention. Praise God for His mercy and grace! He comes to the rejected and neglected, the despised and shamed, the simple and foolish, and frees unto salvation, and uses to accomplish His purposes. The Seed of Eve and the Son of God meet in the heart of the humble to bring life and light and truth to the lost and blind. The people walking in darkness are awakened to a God who has come to rescue them from their sins and be their Lord and King, to lead and rule into victory. Thank you Jesus that you’ve come for wandering Jew and Gentile, and out of these poor sons and daughters of Adam, you will make a new creation, a people for your Name who will worship you in Spirit and Truth. Bless God!
