Seek The Lord
Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.
Look to the LORD and His strength; seek His face always. (1Chron. 16:10-11)
Hello Beloved Ones,
“Wise men still seek Him” says the lawn sign. “The more I seek You, the more I find You” say the words of the Sunday morning worship song. In the midst of a foreign people, in a foreign land, with all of the trappings of the world surrounding the people of God, amidst the noise and the clatter, Moses admonishes the people, “seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul” (Deut. 4:29). Is there within us, amongst the craziness of the world, a desire, a longing for the presence of God, an eagerness to be in His presence, face to face as Moses and David had? In the sea of opinions and commentary, in the deluge of chaos and shocking news reports, how do you find solace? What is your refuge and peace in the storm? I am grateful for a God who invites us into His presence, even saying because of Christ: “Boldly come!” But it is a battle to get to our Refuge and Strength unless our whole heart and soul are committed to the pursuit of His presence, for the distractions and disruptions abound. We need to make a conscious decision to “set our heart and soul on seeking the Lord” (1Chr. 22:19), for the Lord looks down from heaven for those who seek Him (Psa. 14:2). Those with clean hands and pure hearts, who do not worship idols, receive from the Lord blessing and right standing for seeking His presence (Psa. 24:3-6). Those who seek Him lack no good thing (Psa. 34:10). The psalmists write that peace, prosperity, joy, and freedom are promised to those who seek the Lord! Everything that is opposite to the world, that the world cannot offer is found in His presence – it is the reward of those who seek Him. Oh friends! We of all people need to be pursuing the presence of our great God and King in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation: “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory” (Col. 3:1-4). Is Christ your life? Is God your one pure and holy passion? Are you thirsting for more of Him? As we travel about this summer and frolic in the frivolities of our favorite season, does the pursuit of His presence get replaced with other pursuits? We let our guard down, we change our habits, and we reap the consequences of not dwelling in the courts of the Lord. Suddenly sickness, anxiety, lack of joy and peace overwhelm us or lay us up till we recover the importance of communion with the Holy One, and fellowship with His people as we re-enter His courts with thanksgiving and praise. Remember… “those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.” “Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You” (Psa. 70:4). The One who knows us best and invites us to know Him more says, “seek me and you will find me”. Jesus, lover of my soul, you are my first love! You are my pursuit and joy! “O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water” (Psa. 63:1). The Bride says,
By night on my bed I sought the one I love; I sought him, but I did not find him. "I will rise now," I said, "And go about the city; In the streets and in the squares I will seek the one I love." I sought him, but I did not find him. The watchmen who go about the city found me; I said, "Have you seen the one I love?" Scarcely had I passed by them, When I found the one I love. I held him and would not let him go, Until I had brought him to the house of my mother, And into the chamber of her who conceived me. (Song of Solomon 3:1-4)
A Blessed week to y'all
