Divine Intervention
“And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified
in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” (1Cor. 6:11)
Hello Saints,
Where would we be without God stepping in to rescue us. I see the lives of the godless – what a mess! “But for the grace of God go I.” It’s only His grace; it’s only His mercy – “Give thanks to the Lord for He is good! For His love endures forever. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so” (Psa. 107:1-2) He is the rescuer, the deliverer – the only One who can get us out of the mess we have gotten ourselves into. How can we honestly take any credit for our own redemption and salvation? We can’t! Steeped in sin and lost in emptiness, we stumbled and fell and tried to make it through this life, realizing that the more we struggled the deeper into the quagmire we sank.
Psalm 107 is the testimony of the lost being found, the poor being made rich, the hungry being fed, the darkened brought into the light – beggars and wanderers being led home, into the love of God. It’s the song of the redeemed, set free from the many enemies that keep us captive. Four scenarios; four cries to God; four deliverances; four calls to confess, to praise, to call out: “Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!” (Psa. 107:8, 15, 21, 31 NKJ) – Testify! Surely we see ourselves in the four scenarios, or even all of them if we really contemplate our condition before God showed up:
- Wandering in the wilderness, homeless with no place to rest. Hungry, thirsty, your very life being drained out of you – then you cried out to God and He delivered you, He led you, He fed you, He satisfied you (vss. 4-9)
- Bound in prison, shackled and chained, locked in darkness because of your rebellion against God’s word, alone and scared – then you cried out to God and He saved you, he brought you out of darkness, He broke your chains, and He smashed the prison bars and set you free (vss. 10-16)
- Sick because of sinful choices, couldn’t eat, and near death – you had reaped what you sowed – then you cried out to God, and He sent His word and healed you, saved you, delivered you from your self-inflicted misery and turned your groaning into praise (vss. 17-22)
- Drowning in the tumultuous seas of chasing after wealth, living for your business, you got caught up in the waves of commerce and were overwhelmed by the demands of pursuing fortunes that ruled you – then you cried out to God and He calmed the storm, He stilled the waves, He guided you to peaceful shores (vss. 23-32)
God changes the direction of our lives! When we cry out to Him for help - He comes to our rescue. We need to see our need for Divine Intervention, throwing up our hands in desperation, acknowledging that without Him, we are hopeless, lost and perishing. God has the power to turn our lives around and His enduring love can turn our misery into blessings (vss. 35-38). We were created by Him and for Him and without Him we have and are nothing. “All of you set free by God, tell the world!” (Psalm 107:8 MSG). “How will they hear without a preacher” (Rom. 10:14). People are perishing all around us without hearing of the love of God and of His deliverance through Jesus Christ His Son! Share your story! If you are born again, saved by the blood of the Lamb, and filled with the Spirit of God, guess what! You are His witness (Acts 1:8)– that’s our one and only job – preach the good news of new life in Christ - make disciples! (Matt. 28:18-20). At least tell the wandering, the bound, the sick and the drowning to cry out for divine intervention – tell them that there is a God who loves them and can reverse every consequence and restore true life to all who call on His name. “For He satisfies the longing soul and fills the hungry soul with goodness.” (Ps. 107:9)
Peace and Joy to you!
