Not in vain
This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. (John 3:19-20)
Hello Saints,
It would be amiss of me on this mid-September morning to not comment on the phenomenon that is Charlie Kirk, and his assassination just five days ago. A phenomenon is the appropriate word for “a rare or abnormal person or event, a person who is extremely successful”. The response to his death has been global, with people gathered by the thousands, even millions, demonstrating in the streets, chanting Charlie’s name. I’m not talking just in America, but in Spain, New Zealand, England, etc. I have watched many a newscaster crying at the announcing of his death, even in Australia. World leaders are offering condolences to America for losing a champion of faith and family values. The prime minister of Hungary, Victor Orban, said, “Charlie Kirk’s death is the result of the international hate campaign waged by the progressive-liberal left.” From the myriad of videos posted by Turning Point, founded by Charlie in 2012, it was evident that Charlie was a follower of Jesus Christ, and a strong supporter of biblical values and desired to see righteousness in the nation he gave his life to change. He had a huge evangelical following and the support of many prominent pastors and Christian leaders. There is a commemorative shirt offered with his picture on it and the scripture, “Here I am Lord, send me” from Isaiah 6:8. He was a reformer who wanted to turn America back to its biblical roots and Christian heritage. He preached the gospel boldly and defended the Christian faith respectfully, giving a voice to the many “conservative-right wing” adherents who did not like the way the “progressive-liberal left” were leading the country into blatant depravity and disregard for God’s moral ordinances for the nation. It is the young people who are being brainwashed and coerced by the woke DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) agenda which suppresses truth and gives licence to blatant sin. And it is the young people that Charlie wanted to empower, equip and release to change the world. He championed “a movement rooted in faith, freedom, and love of country. He believed America’s future depended on raising up a generation who would NEVER SURRENDER” (Taken from Turning Point USA website) – sounds like discipleship to me! One of those young people inspired by Charlie is Karoline Leavitt, White House press secretary, who gave an incredible Charlie Kirk tribute speech declaring Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. These words struck me, “Charlie was a beaming light in a world that is so consumed by darkness. It’s going to take all of us in this room and all of us across the country to take up Charlie’s torch.” Here’s a link to her speech https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7rURlsW8oM
Many are calling him a martyr, which he is by definition – he died for what he believed in. He was killed by a left-wing 22-year-old homosexual man, whose partner was transitioning from male to female. Obviously, there was a clash of world views; there was a clash of belief systems; there was a clash of ideologies; there was a clash darkness and light; there was a clash of truth versus lies, of left versus right. It was the kingdom of darkness ruled by the god of this world who has blinded the mind of unbelievers, versus the kingdom of our God and of His Christ who “made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ” (2Cor. 4:4-6). The darkness hates the light, it hates truth; it wants to steal, kill and destroy. The good news is that we live in inextinguishable light because the Light of the world is in every follower of Jesus Christ who shines brightly for His glory. We are the light of the world! Charlie should not have been the exception to the Christian faith, he should remind us all that that is our calling as followers of Jesus, to shine brightly in the darkness and to pick up our cross and march into the battlefield, expecting to lay down our lives for the truth we believe in. To live is Christ to die is gain! Friends, people are being lied to by the left; our children are being lied to by woke teachers; our seniors are being lied to that it is better to die than live through an illness; our teens are being lied to that they can change their sexual identity, which God has predetermined as He fashioned each of His precious creations in the womb. Is it now time for the followers of Jesus to rise up with the truth instead of silently allowing the lies to corrupt our societies? Is it now time for a Christian nation to not allow immigration to change our core beliefs and values, and preserve God-fearing righteousness that brings in the favor of God? Recently, I have amped up my witness to the truth of Christ and the transformative power of the gospel and am seeing many people interested in what God has to say about everything. Yes! There is opposition, but there is also breakthrough as people know that the world is a mess, and hopeless, and looking for answers. God is moving, saving young people, pulling them out of darkness and transferring them to the kingdom of Light in Christ. Young people are rising up to declare the truth – may they lead Christians of all generations to rise up with them. In her speech, Charlie’s wife, Erika inspired people to join the movement that valued marriage and family, and to live life according to God’s standards. Charlie was boldly standing for truth and righteousness as were the followers of Jesus we read about in the New Testament. Was he unique? Sadly yes. He should not have been. It should be all of our legacies that we die, even at the hands of an assassin (like the New Testament saints), proclaiming that which we are passionate about – the gospel of Jesus Christ – the hope of a world living in darkness. I pray to God that a movement is unleashed across the globe to restore truth and righteousness in the land. Be mobilized church!
“But most important of all, if you aren’t a member of a church, I beg you to join one, a Bible-believing church. Our battle is not simply a political one above all. It is spiritual. It is spiritual. The spiritual warfare is palpable. Charlie loved his Savior with all of his heart, and he wanted every one of you to know him, too. He wanted everyone to know that if they confess, if they confess the Lord Jesus Christ who rose from the dead, then they will be saved. Hear me when I say this. Nobody is ever too young to know the gospel. Nobody. Nobody is ever too young to get involved with saving this beautiful country, this country my husband loved and still loves. And nobody is ever too old, either. There’s no age limit.” (Erika Kirk)
