Really? Do we even need to talk about this?
Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?
(2: Cor. 6:14-15)
I recently heard a radio commentator call Halloween “the holiest day of the year”. “WHAT!” was my initial response. Has society sunk that low, and become that pagan, that we have now totally abandoned our Christian roots, and call evil good and good evil. The words of Isaiah ran through my brain: “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” (Isa. 5:20). “Woe” is a pronouncement of impending judgment! Are we really there as a nation? Have you seen the lawn displays in front of houses for this pagan celebration: tombstones, 12-foot skeletons, spiders and webs, witches, ghosts, zombies, mutilated bodies coming out of graves…I digress! How much does all this cost? Yet, it seems to increase every year! Let’s face it…it’s a disgusting practice rooted in paganism, witchcraft and Satan worship. It’s evil and dark and anti-Christ at its core! Why would any church or Christian want to participate in it? Are we really that desperate to put butts in pews that we would stoop that low so as to allow our church buildings to be filled with that much darkness? I thought we were commanded to “go” preach the good news, teaching people to obey; to be light in the darkness, not let darkness into our light. I’m sorry, but no matter how you spin this, according to the text above, we are not to participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, nor unite Christ with Satan (Belial). We are children of the light! Have you read Ephesians 5 recently:
Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore, do not be partakers with them. For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. Therefore, He says: "Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light." See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. (Eph. 5:6-17)
How many times does the Bible have to say, “don’t have fellowship with darkness” before we obey the command to “not have fellowship with darkness”! Don’t we know that God, “has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves” (Col 1:13). Friends, no matter what you call it, “Outreach” to neighborhood kids, “Hallelujah party”, “Fun Night” it’s partnering with darkness. It’s compromise, syncretism, and God hates it – read the Bible! No matter how much one tries to masquerade Satan as an angel of light, he is still Satan! We live in an age of a compromising church, that exists under the banner of “progressive Christianity” – another term for heretical and apostate! We are always to shine the light of Christ and the gospel of truth:
“This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” (1John 1:5-7)
Would Jesus celebrate Halloween? What do you think! To the religious leaders He says,
"Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. "You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him (John 8:43-44)
We perish for lack of knowledge. All one has to do is a little research on the roots of Halloween, and one will see it is rooted in the occult, witchcraft, and the evil deeds of darkness. Still thinking of sending your kids or grandchildren out for Halloween? Do you really want to expose them to the dark world, and open up doors to enemy attack? Come on saints (holy ones, set apart unto God), if that is what we are, let’s take a stand! Let’s dare to be different! Let’s forego the compromise! Let’s open our eyes to how evil the days are, and how the church is partnering with the devil to offer our kids to Satan’s servants. Jesus says, “I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel” who causes the saints to engage in idolatry and immorality (Rev. 2:20). Flee the evil deeds of darkness! Call out the compromises and ungodly practices of the church! That is what October 31st is really known for – the beginning of the Reformation of the church that had embraced pagan religion, compromised the truth, and invited the masses to partner with the works of the devil (the spirit of mammon). It took men and women to stand up and call out the apostasy and evil deeds of the ruling priesthood, at the risk of certain death. But it was a price they were willing to pay to preserve the beauty and holiness of the Bride of Christ! Oh may we be like them, not counting our own lives so much as to shrink from death (Rev. 12:11). Take a stand! Call darkness out! No matter the cost! Let your voice be heard! Be a reformer who opposes a compromising church! Just be light in the world, standing with The Light of the World, and have nothing to do with the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather… expose them!
