Matsa Moments - Pastor Mike

The Hebrew word “Matsa” means to: find, meet, discover, encounter. It is used in Deuteronomy 4:29 where the Lord says, "But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.” Throughout Scripture, there is an invitation from God to find Him; He actually rewards those who diligently seek Him (Heb. 11:6). To see God we must be looking for Him.

This blog is a journal of finding God - discovering who He is; learning more about His character and attributes, as I encounter Him in in His Word and world around me. These posts are theological reflections emerging out of a desire to understand how the Creator interacts with us, His creatures. Hopefully, through these you will see how the Ever-present Holy One also invites you to know Him more.

  • Hello Freedom House Family,

What a great God we serve! It is incredible to think of all that He does on a daily, even hourly basis for us. I get so encouraged when I read about Jesus, and all He is able to do to free people from their circumstances. The adage really is true, "life hurts, God heals".

Luke 8 is a power packed chapter - One minute Jesus is an amazingly wise teacher; then this powerful God is able to silence a roaring sea. In this week's reading (Luke 8:26-56), Jesus sets a demon possessed man free, heals a woman who has been sick for a very long time, and raises a dead girl. Incredible! There is nothing our God can't do!!!!

I could write a novel on this chapter. Every verse unpacks more of who Jesus is. This poor possessed man, naked and living in tombs (which is for dead people?!!?), chained, alone, guarded like a criminal (vs. 29). One encounter with Jesus and the man is totally freed! Clothed and in his right mind (vs. 35). Could you imagine what this man suffered at the hands of people who tried to fix him???

Then a poor woman, who had spent all she had on doctors! One encounter with Jesus and she is "instantly healed" (vs. 47). Could you imagine what this woman suffered at the hands of people who tried to fix her???

Then, this young 12 year old girl, who died of sickness. When Jesus took her hand, "her spirit returned to her" (vs. 55), and she was returned to her parents!!! Her spirit left, and Jesus called it back into her!!!! Amazing!!!!

Friends, think of how each person in this week's reading was given a way back to life, when there was no way, except for divine intervention. Ponder how Jesus worked a miracle in each of their lives. Meditate on how their dreams and promises were destroyed because of their circumstances, and Jesus restored hope of fulfilling those promises. Contemplate how each was living in their own dark place because of sickness and oppression, then Jesus came and brought them into light. If He can do it for them, He'll do it for you! Run to Jesus.

There's nothing that our God can't do:

    Have a great week!
